Gretsch G6121-1955 Roundup Western Orange 2007

Inspired by one of Gretsch’s most flamboyant creations of the 1950s, the G6121-1955 Roundup celebrates the golden age of American Country & Western with an unapologetic sense of fun. The studded leather body trim, branded ‘G’ on the top, engraved pickguard and distinctive Western inlays make this one of the most recognisable guitars Gretsch has ever produced. More than half a century after the original, it still turns heads wherever it goes.

Built in Japan’s renowned Terada factory in 2007, this example is in truly outstanding condition. It’s difficult to find a mark anywhere on it, making it an exceptional example of a model that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find in this sort of shape.

Despite its extravagant appearance, the Roundup is a serious player’s guitar. The chambered mahogany body keeps the weight down to a comfortable 7lb 3oz while adding plenty of resonance, and the pair of Gretsch Dynasonic pickups deliver everything you’d expect from a classic Gretsch—clear, articulate cleans, punchy attack and a wonderfully open character that suits everything from rockabilly and country through to blues and classic rock. The Bigsby vibrato completes the package, adding just the right amount of shimmer without getting in the way.

It’s impossible not to smile when you open the case. Gretsch has always done things its own way, and the Roundup might just be the perfect example of that philosophy. Bold, brilliantly made and utterly unique.
